Marina Martin has been named today as the secretary’s senior adviser and chief technology officer at the Veterans Affairs Department, a VA spokeswoman confirmed to FedScoop.

Martin replaces former VA CTO Peter Levin, who left the department in March and headed to the private sector. He now heads up data security company Amida Tech, with Dmitry Kachaev.

Martin left her post as senior adviser to U.S. CTO Todd Park, for whom she has worked the past five months. She was in the inaugural class of the Presidential Innovation Fellows program and was the first-ever “entrepreneur-in-residence” at the Education Department.

Before her move to D.C, Martin worked in Seattle, Wash., where she ran the business-efficiency consulting firm The Type-A Way.  She also built Force.com (Apex/Java) and Rails apps, as well as wrote the book, “Business Efficiency for Dummies.”
