Announcing peak dates for the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the National Park Service offered hope today that record-low March temperatures will not freeze out springtime in Washington.

Look for pink blooms to replace frost in the city’s cherry trees April 8-12. That’s the week the Park Service anticipates 70 percent of the blossoms will be opened.

This year’s annual festival, in its 102nd year, is scheduled for March 20-April 13.

The 2014 festival app will be available for download later this month.
