The name tag is an accessory nearly everyone in Washington wears. It is worn often, and it is often worn wrong.

Name tag etiquette is not in the course load for any master’s program, but to master the art of networking it is important that people know your name!

Though it feels most natural for a right-handed person to clip a name tag on one’s left side, the proper place for one’s badge, according to nearly all experts in social and business etiquette, is on the right side of the chest.

Why? We offer our right hand to shake, so the eyes automatically fall to the right side of the body.

Party Trick: Remember the proper placement by recalling that the right side IS the right side!

A great reminder! I had no idea until I participated in a Business Etiquette course.
