Breakout Sessions: The Building Blocks of the Data Center of the Future

10:15 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Each breakout session will cover critical building blocks for the New IP, a key enabler of next-generation data centers. Sessions are 35 minutes and will run twice - please choose two to attend.

Session 1: Physical Infrastructure

The nature of physical datacenter design is changing, driven primarily by cloud models and new technologies like Software-defined Networking and Network Functions Virtualization. The shifting landscape is driving an evolution in how datacenters are architected and operated. This session will describe new considerations for datacenter design.

Session 2: Network Functions Virtualization

Virtualization continues to play a strategic role inside the data center and at the network edge. In this session, you’ll learn about the advances in Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and the changing architecture for the server as well as the chips inside.

  • Clive D'Souza, Sr. Strategic Planner – Open Network Platform, Intel

  • COL. Bobby Saxon, Division Chief & Program Director, G-3/5/7, Dept. of the Army

Session 3: Software Defined Networking

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is paving the way for self-service innovation, enabling higher levels of access and control over networks and their resources. In this session, you’ll hear how SDN architecture decouples the control and data elements of the network to provide an open, flexible, and centralized management model.

Session 4: Management / Orchestration

In this session, you’ll learn about Openstack, the hybrid cloud open source platform that simplifies provisioning, management, and orchestration for compute, storage, network and services. Open Stack is rapidly becoming the de facto open source management framework that allows organizations to create private and public cloud computing with standard components and interfaces. Developed by NASA and Rackspace in 2010, Open Stack now has support from many major OEMs, hundreds of companies, and thousands of developers worldwide.
