Embracing AI and automation to improve document-based processes
Government agencies continue to face significant challenges in streamlining document-based processes, from managing military records to processing disability claims. Despite years of effort, manual data entry and verification persist, causing delays, errors and frustration for citizens relying on essential services.
“The scale at which the U.S. government operates is massive,” says Hyperscience CEO Andrew Joiner in a new video interview for FedScoop. “From handling sensitive PII (personally identifiable information) to processing complex information like medical records or financial data, traditional methods and technologies often fall short.”
Platforms like Hyperscience, that employ AI and advanced machine learning (ML) models to automate and enhance accuracy in document processing, can accurately read documents and forms with 99.5% accuracy rates. Unlike traditional OCR systems, which often fail to achieve satisfactory results, Hyperscience’s platform provides a “digital workforce” capable of handling tasks previously requiring manual intervention.
Joiner points to the success the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has had using Hyperscience. The platform processes over a billion documents annually for the VA, reducing the claims approval timeline from three months to just three days.
“Behind every document is a person, often a veteran who served our country,” says Joiner. “Our platform ensures their claims are handled efficiently and accurately, improving outcomes for individuals and saving the government hundreds of millions of dollars.”
Security and compliance also are at the core of Hyperscience’s operations, he added. The platform can operate in disconnected or on-premises environments, ensuring data sovereignty and meeting stringent federal standards like FedRAMP certification. “This provides government agencies the confidence to adopt cutting-edge technologies without compromising sensitive information,” says Joiner.
Looking ahead, Joiner sees a continued need for document-centric solutions. “Documents provide permanence to transactions. While generative AI offers exciting possibilities, the need for reliable, document-based interactions remains,” he says. “By integrating AI into these processes, we’re not just improving efficiency but fundamentally changing how governments serve citizens.”
Learn how Hyperscience can automate document-heavy processes to reduce data backlog, improve response times and drive better outcomes.
