How digital adoption platforms can help federal agencies tackle rapid technology transformation
Federal agencies face unprecedented challenges in managing the rapid pace of technological change. While traditional methods of change management and training often fail to keep up with the continuous updates, shifting priorities, and new systems, innovative solutions like digital adoption platforms (DAPs) are emerging to help agencies streamline operations, improve compliance and accelerate mission readiness.
“Effective communication and user involvement are key,” says Nicholas Vinson, senior product manager for the U.S. Army, in a new video panel discussing the Army’s digital transformation. “We’ve moved from a traditional waterfall development model to a more agile approach, starting with minimally viable products and incorporating real-time user feedback. This shift helps us adapt tools to user needs and reduces resistance to change.”
DAPs, such as those developed by WalkMe, act as a “GPS for software adoption,” says Carl Wright, vice president for regulated industries at WalkMe, guiding users through complex workflows in real-time. “Just like a navigation app directs you to your destination efficiently, WalkMe overlays on top of applications to provide real-time, contextual guidance, reducing friction and errors,” says Wright.
These platforms address critical challenges, including the complexity of federal systems and the diverse, multi-generational workforce. “Whether you’re 18 or nearing retirement, DAPs offer tailored support, helping users complete tasks confidently without lengthy training sessions,” says Wright.
While the Army is still exploring these platforms, Vinson highlighted their potential. “They could make training more efficient, reduce support needs and improve data accuracy,” he says. “Real-time, in-app guidance minimizes errors and empowers our personnel to focus on mission-critical tasks.”
DAPs also enhance governance and compliance by monitoring tool usage and guiding users toward approved solutions. “Instead of simply blocking unauthorized tools, we educate users on alternatives and best practices,” says Wright. “This proactive approach supports responsible use of AI and other emerging technologies.”
For federal agencies, the benefits of DAPs extend beyond improved workflows. They offer actionable insights for data-driven decision-making, helping organizations rationalize software investments and optimize productivity.
“Adopting these platforms could be transformative, future-proofing our operations and empowering our workforce to adapt seamlessly to new technologies, ensuring mission success in a rapidly evolving landscape,” says Vinson.
