The bipartisan legislation from Sens. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., and Todd Young, R-Ind., would refresh the federal program for the first time since its 2023 expiration.

The bicameral legislative effort would task the intelligence agency with producing cyber-focused guidance to secure AI systems and ward off foreign threats.

The bipartisan bill comes as House Republicans want to give the agency $500 million for AI and modernization while also barring enforcement of state-level AI regulations.
