Dr. David Markowitz on how data drives the Army’s future

Dr. David Markowitz, Chief Data and Analytics Officer and Deputy CIO for the U.S. Army, discussed the Army’s five-year journey in transforming large data sets into actionable insights. He highlighted three stages of maturity: mature units, those maturing, and those still gathering data. The Army has six data platforms to facilitate data sharing and expertise building. Markowitz emphasized the role of data platforms in combating cyber threats and protecting critical infrastructure, noting the success of low-code, no-code tools that enable non-experts to perform data analytics. He also mentioned the goal of increasing Army workforce engagement in data processing.
