One former U.S. Digital Service worker called the new project a ‘slap in the face’ to those laid off at the beginning of the Trump administration. 

Thomas Shedd, Technology Transformation Services director and Tesla alum, said during a town hall that only critical and statutorily required work will continue.

The General Services Administration said over 40 of the 70 fellows will participate in AI-related projects.
