The Small Business Administration is looking for a chief data officer to spearhead the agency’s efforts to comply with looming provisions of the Digital Accountability and Transparency Act.

In a job posting this week, the agency said it is looking for someone to work in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, leading efforts to develop technology which automatically posts loan and grant information in a shareable form, as required under the DATA Act.

According to the job posting, the chief data officer will:

  • Direct, plan, develop, coordinate, and evaluate a comprehensive nationwide effort to report on SBA’s three major loan programs (7 (a), 504 CDC, and Disaster), contracts, grants, and investments in line with DATA Act.
  • Oversee the DATA Act strategic plan and directs the preparation of policy and Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs).
  • Evaluate and interpret new legislation, guidelines, and regulations for impact on the SBA programs.
  • Oversee the interpretation of DATA Act financial reports to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of SBA programs and operations.
  • Serve on committees, panels, and task forces related to planning, budgeting, accountability, and financial matters and represent the agency at DATA Act conferences and meetings on an interagency and national level.
  • Supervise, direct, coordinate, and oversee work of subordinates and advise subordinate staff on policies, procedures, and directives of higher level management.

The legislation, passed in May 2014, requires agencies to make their financial, budget, payment, grant and contract data interoperable when published to USASpending.gov, the federal government’s hub of publicly available financial data, by May 9, 2017.

The position is based in Washington, D.C. with a salary between $126,245 to $158,700 per year.
