McAfee’s Dave Marcus on cyber threats

Dave Marcus, director, security research and communications, McAfee, discusses cyber threats in this interview with FedScoopTV.

Excerpt:

The biggest cyber threat facing the government today is lax deployments. A lot of people will say it’s this actor or that actor or this part of the world or that part of the world. Honestly, the apathy is one of the biggest things we have to combat and getting people to understand how serious it is to deploy things correctly, how important it is to lock things done and run with minimum services and run with minimal permissions. That’s a bigger issue than most people realize. If deployments were done with best practices in the first place, we wouldn’t have a lot of the problems we have today. Probably the biggest advice we try to give agencies in fighting cyber-attacks is to follow as much news as they possibly can. Stay aware of the common attacks and common tactics we’re seeing today. It’s important to understand the tools of the enemy, and it’s important to understand the trends that are going on today.
