Economic Chief Goolsbee Returning to School

Austan Goolsbee, Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and the youngest member of President Obama’s cabinet, announced yesterday he is leaving public service this summer to return to the University of Chicago where he is a professor of economics in the graduate school of business.

Goolsbee has been President Obama’s economic advisor since Obama’s successful U.S. Senate campaign in Illinois. He advised Barack Obama in his 2004 Senate race and was the senior economic advisor to the 2008 Obama presidential campaign.

He was nominated to the Council of Economic Advisers during the administration’s first day in office. He rose to chairman last year.
