The White House announced today that U.S. Health and Human Services Chief Technology Officer Todd Park has been appointed as the next federal CTO.

Known for his innovations in health information technology, open heath data and open government, Park will become the second federal CTO in the nation’s history, succeeding Aneesh Chopra, who left office February 8.

“For nearly three years, Todd has served as CTO of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where he was a hugely energetic force for positive change. He led the successful execution of an array of breakthrough initiatives, including the creation of, the first website to provide consumers with a comprehensive inventory of public and private health insurance plans available across the Nation by zip code in a single, easy-to-use tool,” said Assistant to the President for Science and Technology and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy John P. Holdren announcing the appointment.

Park addresses attendees at FedTalks 2011 on October 11, 2011:

Finally we get an executive who has written code and that’s a huge help as you know.

I said back in 2009 that Sebelius would be buried in a couple of years as the HHS job was going to evolve into more Health IT responsibilities and she did one thing right
with getting Parks in there or they would have been buried.

Now on the other side of the coin if we had some members of Congress with some higher levels of digital literacy that would help too, but until we do consumers live under the Attack of the Killer Algorithms with flawed data that is getting mismatched and marketed all over the place.

Two great videos at the link below…all about context and how algorithms affect our lives.
