NASA finally released a request for proposal — rumored since February — for its fifth acquisition contract to provide much of the government’s information technology services. The contracts are expected to be valued between $5 and $10 billion.
The omnibus IT procurement — Solutions for Enterprise Wide Procurement, or SEWP V — replaces SEWP IV, which was awarded in 2007 via 38 prime contract holders. Those contracts provided more than 2 million IT products from 3,800 manufacturers. NASA has been issuing SEWP acquisition contracts since 1993.
NASA’s RFP, released Friday, indicates the contract ordering period will run for five years, with five extra option years through 2024. The organization is seeking bids for computer systems and servers, as well as for those item’s support equipment — mass storage devices, server support devices, security technology and video and conference tools.
The computer and server contracts are open to all bidders, but many of the support equipment contracts are set aside for service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses and various other small businesses.
Bids are due Oct. 14.
