The White House is expected to release a cybersecurity executive order on Wednesday, The Hill reports, citing two unnamed sources familiar with the executive order.
According to the report, the executive order will be unveiled at a briefing at the U.S. Department of Commerce where senior Obama administration officials will provide an update on cybersecurity policy.
The executive order is expected to mirror many of the initiatives put forth in the Cybersecurity Act of 2012, which was twice voted down in the Senate. That bill called for companies that deal with critical infrastructure to voluntarily share cybersecurity threat information with the United States government.
The executive order has been rumored for a few weeks and lately it leaked that the executive order would be released shortly after Tuesday’s State of the Union address.
A number of high-level federal technology leaders are expected to take part in Wednesday’s briefing, including White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Michael Daniel, Commerce Department Deputy Secretary Rebecca Blank, Department of Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Jane Lute and National Security Director Gen. Keith Alexander.
