Robocall complaints continue to rise and more than 217 million phone numbers are now registered in the Federal Trade Commission’s Do Not Call Registry, according to its annual report released Tuesday.
The report, “National Do Not Call Registry Data Book for Fiscal Year 2012,” based on activity from October 1 to September 30, 2012, includes state-by-state registrations and complaints as well as registry access trends.
According to the FTC, by the end of fiscal year 2012, more than 217,568,135 phone numbers were on the list, up from 209,722,924 at the end of fiscal year 2011
FTC said it continues to receive large numbers of consumer complaints about robocalls, most of which have been illegal since September 2009. The number of consumer complaints about unwanted telemarketing calls received increased from 2,273,516 during fiscal year 2011 to 3,840,572 during fiscal year 2012.
