Derived credentials will let feds use smartphones for ID

Government agencies will soon be able to replace the familiar Personal Identity Verification card with a smartphone equipped with a secure chip, two vendors say.

Kirit Amin is leaving the Department of Housing and Urban Development to become the new deputy chief information officer at the Department of Commerce.

Amin was the chief technology officer at HUD and was previously the CIO at the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs.
At HUD, Amin was spearheading the agency’s information technology modernization plan as he discussed in an interview with FedScoop.
