Foreign exchange program exposes Middle Eastern girls to computer coding

The State Department program, started in 2011, introduces nearly 30 teenage girls from the Middle East to Java programming and advanced computer coding.

The White House is partnering with LinkedIn on Veterans Hackday 2011, a code-a-thon aimed at getting developers "to put together projects that can improve any aspect of a veteran's life."
The winners will receive a Macbook Air laptop, while second place wins an iPad2. The third place finisher will receive a $100 gift card to Amazon.com.
