Now you too can be a part of the group tasked with reviewing the government’s surveillance program.
Well, sort of.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence announced on its Tumblr on Wednesday any member of the public can submit comments to the review group between now and Oct. 4 by emailing reviewgroup@dni.gov.
But remember: “At this time, the Review Group is receiving comments only, and will not be responding to submitters,” the post reads. “However, the Review Group may determine it appropriate to the public debate to post your comments publicly.”
President Barack Obama directed the group’s formation last month, and announced the members Aug. 26. Since then, the five-member panel (which FedScoop detailed last week) has met with the president and is scheduled to meet with privacy advocates and tech industry representatives next week.
But the announcement promises the publicly submitted comments will also “be used to inform the group’s deliberations.”
And as always, keep in mind the government will have all the information you submit to it.
“Any personal information you provide in the comments, or in an address or signature block, may be disclosed,” the post reads. “Providing a comment is voluntary, and implies your consent to publication of the comment and any personal information contained in it.”
