The Air Force’s Electronic Systems Center, located at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts, awarded Northrop Grumman an $8.8 million contract to provide a deployable instrument landing systems that will provide guidance to aircraft on final approach during low visibility weather conditions.
The contract is for 34 systems with a five-year period of performance. If all the potential options on the contract are exercised, the value could increase to almost $58 million.
Production is anticipated to begin around the middle of 2013 with initial operating capability slated for early fiscal year 2014.
