The Air Force has canceled its annual technology conference in August, citing concerns over the $1.4 million price tag for the event.
The conference, in its 29th year, was scheduled to be hosted in Montgomery, Ala. This is the sixth time the Air Force has canceled this conference in its history, each for budgetary reasons.
“The Air Force is always focused on the proper stewardship of taxpayer funds,” the event’s webpage says. “Currently, financial resources are heavily constrained, and this has increased the amount of scrutiny over Air Force sponsored and co-sponsored events.”
The scrutiny was highlighted in a recent memorandum from the Office of Management and Budget that called for federal agencies to reduce costs, especially for those related to travel and conferences.
