The Federal CIO Council released three best practices case studies on Wednesday in its first step to create a collaboration portal as part of the Office of Management and Budget’s 25-Point Implementation Plan To Reform Federal IT Management.
Agencies will be aggregating case studies, lessons learned, and other tools at the portal to share best practices from the public and private sector in managing large scale IT systems. The CIO Council also established a Management Best Practices Committee to spearhead the sharing of best practices, focusing on IT program management, including implementation of agency-level TechStats, and how to better align IT with acquisition and budget activities.
The three case studies posted come from the Department of Agriculture, the State Department and Veterans Affairs.
The USDA’s case study looks at how the agency consolidated 21 e-mail systems into one enterprise system using cloud services. State explains how it used a working capital fund for IT to consolidate IT services while VA explains how it automated benefits for the GI Bill.
Stay tuned for agency updates.
