President Obama tackled sequestration in his weekly YouTube address, saying the measure would be a harmful to the nation’s economy and military.
“The result could be a huge blow to middle class families and our economy as a whole,” Obama said.
Obama recently called on Congress to make a number of smaller cuts in order to avert sequestration by the March 1 deadline.
So far, Congress has resisted that approach and there is fear that sequestration, which would cut more than a $1 trillion from federal programs over the next decade, will take effect.
In order to gain public support, the White House last week issued a fact sheet detailing more of what sequestration would do to federal programs such as those in energy, healthcare and education, along with the well-reported cuts to national security.
