The group is a public forum for the discussion of e-filing issues and its core goal is to promote the use of paperless tax returns.

The bill includes funding for the Internal Revenue Service to modernize its IT business systems and digital asset monitoring. 

In fiscal 2021 the agency had to request $600 million in interappropriation transfers to cover its IT spending shortfall.

Underscoring the need to modernize IRS's IT is also a critical need to hire tech and cybersecurity specialists.
