Amazon Web Services is one of the biggest names in government cloud computing, and the face behind that name is Teresa Carlson. For yet another year under Carlson, AWS’s global portfolio saw major growth in the public sector, specifically in November 2017 when the service launched its Secret Region, which allows the government to use commercial cloud services for workloads at the U.S. security classification level of “Secret,” and higher. Talking with FedScoop, Carlson emphasized the importance of taking risks in the government tech industry, particularly for women. “Change in technology happens so quickly, and that speed is only increasing,” she said.” You have to be on your toes or before you know it, advancements have passed you by and you’re spending time playing catch up.”
