Park: 24 of 26 open gov milestones reached

The federal government has fulfilled 24 of the 26 commitments it made in its National Action Plan as part of the Open Government Partnership.

In a blog post written by U.S. Chief Technology Officer Todd Park and Lisa Ellman, a senior advisor to Park, the two pointed to projects such as “We the People” and the administration’s open data initiatives as success in facilitating an open and transparent government.

“But there is always more work that can be done,” the blog post said. “Opening government takes time, effort, and resources, and the Obama Administration remains committed to continuing this work in the second term.”

The post also said the federal government has committed to releasing a second Open Government National Action Plan later this year.

The White House is looking for feedback from the public ranging from in-person consultations to online dialogues. Information on these engagement opportunities will be posted on whitehouse.gov/open and Twitter at @OpenGov.

“Together, we will work to continue to empower public participation in policy dialogues, release information that spurs innovation and helps citizens hold government accountable, and make government more efficient and responsive,” the two wrote. “This is, as the President has said, ‘the essence of democracy,’ and the cause that we re-commit ourselves to today.”
