Thanks to White House Assistant Chef Sam Kaas, home brew beer enthusiasts can get an insider’s view, and the official recipes, of the White House’s own honey porter and honey ale.
In a new “Inside the White House” video, Kaas gives a tour of their home brewing process, which includes using honey from the White House’s own bee-hive.
“Inspired by home brewers from across the country, last year President Obama bought a home brewing kit for the kitchen. After the few first drafts we landed on some great recipes that came from a local brew shop. We received some tips from a couple of home brewers who work in the White House who helped us amend it and make it our own,” said Kaas.
Kaas responded to a recent “We the People” petition requesting the White House release the recipe of its home brewed honey ale by publishing the recipe on the White House blog.
“With public excitement about White House beer fermenting such a buzz, we decided we better hop right to it.”
Cheers to that.
