Congress turning up the heat on VA CIO

But before it does that, the House Veterans Affairs Committee plans to investigate why the department has allowed the system to remain so antiquated for so long. A source on Capitol Hill confirmed to FedScoop that the committee is planning to hold separate hearings on the role VA’s problematic IT systems have played in the ongoing patient care delay scandal.
VA releases internal audit summary of scheduling practices
May 30, 2014 · 12:53 pm The Department of Veterans Affairs today released its audit summary on veteran access to healthcare, less than an hour after the crisis concerning patient scheduling practices claimed the job of former VA Secretary Eric Shinseki. The audit assesses the integrity of the Veterans Health Administration’s scheduling and access management practices, makes recommendations about policies and sets a course for improvement throughout VA. This first phase of a VA-wide audit surveyed 258 different points of access in the VA healthcare system.
Shinseki resigns as VA secretary
May 30, 2014 · 11:52 am President Barack Obama today announced he has accepted the resignation of embattled Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki. Deputy Secretary Sloan D. Gibson will take the helm of VA on an interim basis until a permanent replacement for Shinseki is found, Obama said. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Rob Nabors, dispatched by Obama to investigate VA’s scheduling process, will continue in his investigative role during the transition period, Obama said.
