The bipartisan legislation from Sens. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., and Todd Young, R-Ind., would refresh the federal program for the first time since its 2023 expiration.

The support also comes as House lawmakers introduced a bill that would amend the National Quantum Initiative Act to add a “sandbox” for the tech at NIST.

The SAMOSA Act finally passes the House, with little time to spare. And the Senate introduces a reauthorization of the National Quantum Initiative.

The initiative to bolster quantum research partly expired Sept. 30, 2023. A House bill of the same name advanced out of committee last year.

The House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology passed the legislation Wednesday. It goes next to the full chamber.
