The Department of Defense’s enterprise email system surpassed 500,000 users recently, U.S. Army Deputy Chief Information Officer Mike Krieger announced on Monday.
Krieger said the Army will complete its classified network migration by March of 2013 as more than 500,000 Army Knowledge Online-only users will be added to the service in February.
In addition to the Army users, more than 18,000 users from the Joint Staff, Defense Information Systems Agency and U.S. European Command will be added as well.
“As you all know, Enterprise Email is only the beginning,” Kreiger said. “In earlier posts, I mentioned one of the most significant capabilities of DoD EE is DoD Enterprise Directory Services (EDS). EDS provides a single, authoritative identity to everyone in DoD based on their CAC card credentials.”
He continued, “As in DoD EE, EDS provides the building blocks that will enable the Army to more fully implement a single identity across the DoD. EDS enables the goal to ensure your personal and organizational data is always securely available from anywhere. Once again, thanks to the DoD EE and EDS teams, and all our mission partners for your hard work, dedication, and contributions.”
