Defense Department Chief Information Officer Teri Takai is leaving her post, effective Friday, FedScoop has confirmed.

A source close to Takai confirmed her planned departure, but declined to provide additional details.

Takai has served as the Pentagon’s CIO since 2010, and has managed the day-to-day operations of a $38+ billion IT budget — one of the biggest IT budgets in the world.

Since joining DOD, Takai has served as the principal adviser to the secretary of defense for information management, IT and information assurance, as well as non-intelligence space systems, critical satellite communications, navigation, and timing programs, spectrum and telecommunications.

Takai previously served as CIO for the State of California. As a member of the governor’s cabinet, she advised the governor on the strategic management and direction of information technology resources as the state worked to modernize and transform the way California does business with its citizens.

This is a developing story.
