Foreign exchange program exposes Middle Eastern girls to computer coding

The State Department program, started in 2011, introduces nearly 30 teenage girls from the Middle East to Java programming and advanced computer coding.

The next Tech@State event, scheduled for July 12-13 at George Washington University, will feature a talk from Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales.
The State Department has partnered with Wikimania 2012 and will explore wikis and the public sector. It aims to provide an opportunity to learn how wikis and wiki-associated technologies are being incorporated and used to enhance collaboration in the public sector, especially in the federal government.
Tech@State is run by the State Department's e-diplomacy office and aims to connect established leaders, new innovators, government personnel and others to work together on 21st century technology solutions to improve the education, health and welfare of the world's population.
