Federal CIO Vivek Kundra said that the budget cuts to the federal government transparency programs, most notably data.gov, will cause his office to make tough decisions.
“Honestly, the cuts are so new at this point it’s hard to say exactly how we’ll handle it,” Kundra said this morning after testifying before the Senate Homeland Security Committee. “We’re still evaluating the implementations, but we know that tough decisions will have to be made of which sites will go offline. We’re going to have to prioritize our systems.”
In the latest budget negotiations to come from Congress, the program faces a cut from $34 million down to $8 million. Asked what he thought of these cuts, Kundra smiled and declined to comment.
