Second presidential debate generates 7.2 million tweets

Tuesday night’s presidential debate generated 7.2 million tweets during the 90-minute town hall session, down from more than 10 million during the first presidential debate between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

  • President Obama’s statement to Romney, “You’re the last person to get tough on China.” (108,619 TPM)
  • Romney’s response to tax rates question (107,386 TPM)

The most discussed topics included the economy (28 percent of tweets), taxes (17 percent), foreign policy (16 percent), energy and the environment (13 percent) and immigration (eight percent), according to Twitter.
