OMB: Feds closed 50 data centers last three months

The federal government has closed 50 data centers in the past three months, bringing the government’s total to 318 since the launch of the federal data center initiative created as part of former U.S. Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra’s 25-Point Plan to Reform Federal IT.

The Office of Management and Budget posted a spreadsheet with its finding on data.gov.

Federal agencies plan to close 56 more data centers by the end of September 2012. The government plans to close 962 data centers by the end of 2015 after starting with more than 3,100.
