In the latest episode of White House White Board, U.S. Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra highlights costs savings in technology and its impact on government transparency. Kundra explains the success of the IT Dashboard, launched in June 2009, that helped shine light on $80 billion of IT investments.
On “Day One,” $27 billion of IT projects were identified as over budget and behind schedule. After using the dashboard to review 38 of the highest priority IT projects, Kundra says 12 projects were accelerated from two years to eight months, four projects were terminated and 11 reduced in scope, saving an estimated $3 billion.
