Karl Robert Schumann
Federal Leadership
Karl Robert Schumann became the FBI’s CIO in 2026 after more than two decades at the bureau. A former special agent who moved through senior leadership roles, he brings direct knowledge of investigative operations to oversight of the FBI’s technology enterprise. His responsibilities include the systems, services and security capabilities that support personnel working across complex criminal and national security missions. That operational experience can help connect modernization decisions with the needs of agents, analysts and other employees. As CIO, Schumann faces the challenge of delivering dependable technology while protecting highly sensitive information and adapting to changing threats.
