Federal technology is a unique space to work in, but there are some crossovers with other industries, said Ralph Havens — like his time as a coach in youth sports leagues. For decades he has looked for the right players, found their strengths and weaknesses, and worked to put them in the right position — both on the field and in the office. At Infoblox, he has taken the same approach in coaching to deliver network security. “Good leadership recognizes that no one organization or product can provide a complete solution,” he said. Instead, there needs to be the right “ecosystem” of partner companies. To find that right system, pursuing opportunities is key. Don’t be afraid to fail, he said.
