Maria Roat joins SBA as CIO
Maria Roat will join the Small Business Administration as its CIO, she confirmed to FedScoop Monday.
Roat, who has served as the Transportation Department CTO since August 2014, will join the SBA Oct. 3, replacing Keith Bluestein who was the agency’s acting CIO since August 2015.
As the Transportation CTO, she led the agency’s explorations around virtualization, autonomous vehicles and cloud, among other emerging technologies

Prior to her two-year stint with DOT, Roat worked in several IT-related positions spanning a decade at the Department of Homeland Security, including as CISO for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, deputy CIO for the Federal Emergency Management Agency and chief of staff for the department’s main Office of the CIO. She also served as director of the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program at the General Services Administration.
Roat’s final day as DOT CTO is Sept. 30.
Roat is a prior winner of a FedScoop 50 award for Federal Leadership and was honored as one of D.C.’s Top 50 Women in Tech List for the past three years.
