DISA opens $902M comms contract for bid
The Defense Information Systems Agency opened its $902 million Communications Capacity Services Contract for bid this week.
DISA is looking for a single contractor to provide “reliable, responsive, and cost effective communication infrastructure services,” the CCS II solicitation says. That includes hardware and software, like “routers, switches, appliances, monitoring equipment, monitoring and reporting software, and other supporting devices…”
The service allows DISA to contract scalable network capacity as needed with monthly billing for what it uses on a per-port or per-device basis while the contractor owns and maintains the equipment. This gives DISA access to the newest communications and networking technology as it hits the market with 24/7 support, according to a 2015 industry forecast from the agency.
The agency will award the nearly billion-dollar contract for a five-year base period of performance with five one-year options to extend.
DISA awarded the new contract’s predecessor, CCS I, to Reston, Virginia-based Knight Point Systems LLC in 2011 with a $200-million ceiling. That award will expire in 2019 if extensions are granted.
Vendors have until Sept. 1 to submit bids on the contract.

An earlier version of this story listed legacy hardware maintenance as part of the procurement. Legacy hardware maintenance was inadvertently part of the presolicitation but removed for the solicitation’s performance work statement.
