White House convenes public, private sectors around digital health record interoperability
The White House’s Office of American Innovation will host health care leaders Tuesday to discuss electronic health record interoperability across the public and private sectors.
According to an agenda for the event, OAI leader Jared Kushner will kick it off with Seema Verma, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, before attendees move to working group sessions on the government’s role in EHR interoperability, technical standards and authentication, and more. HIStalk first reported news of the event.
Acting Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Eric Hargan will also speak later in the day.
Donald Rucker, head of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, will be in attendance, according to FierceHealthcare. So will representatives from Intermountain, the Sequoia Project and Cerner — which the Department of Veterans Affairs recently chose as its commercial vendor to replace its current EHR, the Veterans Information Systems and Technology Architecture.
The White House’s focus on EHR interoperability comes as no surprise. Officials last week said that in addition to the added interoperability that moving to a Cerner EHR would bring between the VA and the Defense Department, it’s also working with the White House to improve its interoperability with private medical facilities.
Kushner’s OAI has touted its guidance in VA’s plan to move to the Cerner platform as one of its first major achievements since launching earlier this year.
