Rob Vietmeyer leads software modernization work within the Pentagon CIO organization. As chief software officer, he advocates for development practices and technology that can help the department deliver useful software more quickly, including DevSecOps, cloud services and agile approaches. He took the role in 2022 with a mandate to advance the department’s software modernization strategy and address barriers to adoption. That work remains central to defense missions that depend on updating capabilities as needs change. Vietmeyer’s position connects policy with the teams building and operating software, helping the department move from broad modernization goals toward repeatable delivery practices.
