Senior Policy Analyst, Office of Management and Budget

Carol Bales has seen a lot of changes since joining the White House’s Office of Management and Budget in 2006 — changes in administration, policy, tech capacity and more. These days, Bales leads the cybersecurity and national security unit within the Office of the Federal Chief Information Officer. There, her team creates governmentwide cybersecurity policies and partners with agencies to help them effectively implement these directives.

But not all Bales’ work is in security. One project she’s especially excited about, for example, is OMB’s continued work in IT modernization.

“I am really excited about what we are doing in the area of IT modernization,” Bales told FedScoop. “This work … focuses on the modernization and consolidation of networks and the use of shared services to enable future network architectures. The focus is not just on technology – but also budgets, processes, and people required to affect organizational change. I am really looking forward to what we can achieve over the next few years.”
