The Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service is looking for a deputy assistant administrator. The job pays between $119,554 and $179,700 per year and is open for applications until May 29.
Participates with the Administrator, the Assistant Administrator, Office of Field Operations (OFO), other Assistant Administrators, and staff officials in developing, recommending, and supporting Agency missions, goals, and policies. With the Assistant Administrator, OFO, shares primary responsibility for these requirements as they relate to operation of domestic regulatory oversight and inspection programs oriented to food safety and consumer protection needs.
Participates with the Administrator, the Assistant Administrator, OFO, and the Assistant Administrator, Office of Program Evaluation, Enforcement and Review in planning and formulating policy for the FSIS enforcement programs to promote compliance with and enforcement of meat and poultry inspection laws and regulations.
With the Assistant Administrator, OFO, shares fully in planning and developing overall nationwide objectives and administration policies and procedures; in coordinating the national meat, poultry, and egg product inspection and residue control programs; and the Agency’s on site compliance programs. Shares with the Deputy Administrator in directing the implementation of overall program and policy objectives, and in making critical decisions regarding the conduct, coordination, and integration of program operations conducted by the numerous organizational segments under his or her direction.
Shares fully with the Assistant Administrator, OFO in leading and coordinating all Agency recall activities in support of the Agency’s public health, food safety, and food security mission.
Shares fully with the Assistant Administrator, OFO in overseeing cooperative activities with the Food and Drug Administration, other Federal agencies, State and local agencies, and private agencies and organizations aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of national meat, poultry, and egg products inspection and compliance programs.
With the Assistant Administrator, OFO, shares fully in responsibility for keeping the Administrator, other Assistant Administrators, and other Agency officials fully informed of program-related considerations having significant bearing on the planning, development, and administration of the overall Agency meat, poultry, and egg products inspection operations.
Participates fully with the Assistant Administrator, OFO and the Assistant Administrator, Office of Program Evaluation, Enforcement and Review in providing national leadership and direction in evaluating the effectiveness of meat, poultry, and egg product inspection operations for adherence to operating plans and time schedules, maximum utilization of resources, quality of results, and maintenance of cooperative relationships. Similarly participates in directing periodic comprehensive evaluations of program goals and objectives to determine when redefinition or redirection of priorities is required.
Shares fully with the Assistant Administrator in determining resources needed for OFO. With the Assistant Administrator, OFO and the Administrator, explains and defends resource requirements before the Department, the Office of Management and Budget, and Congressional committees. Shares with the Assistant Administrator, OFO, responsibility for defining roles and authorities assigned to subordinate units and to key subordinate positions, and for determining optimal organizational structure and utilization of resources.
