Patrick Newbold

Patrick Newbold leads CMS’s Office of Information Technology and serves as the agency’s CIO. His team supports technology essential to administering federal health programs and serving beneficiaries, providers and employees. Newbold previously held senior IT leadership positions at NASA and the Social Security Administration, where he served as CIO and helped lead digital modernization and cybersecurity work. That background brings experience with large public-facing systems to CMS. His role calls for dependable operations alongside changes that improve how people interact with the agency and how its workforce delivers services.
