Gov Start-up Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Launches New Site, Seeks Citizen FeedBack

2011_02_cfpb The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau launched its new website today and wants citizens to share suggestions on how it should operate. CFPB was created in 2010 as part of the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act to centralize consumer protection powers into one agency. Its mission is to “make sure that consumers have the information they need to understand the terms of their agreements with financial companies.”

CFPB’s Elizabeth Warren says this about the agency’s new role:

“The idea was to put a cop on the beat, to enforce the laws on credit cards, mortgages, student loans, prepaid cards, and other kinds of consumer financial products and services. We’re also here to be a voice in Washington for you … For the first time in many years, we have an opportunity to create a brand new consumer agency from the ground up. We want to make sure that you are with us all the way while we build it.”
