Brian Epley leads technology at the Department of Commerce, whose varied bureaus support economic development, trade, scientific research and public data. Before becoming CIO, he served as principal deputy CIO at the Department of Energy and held senior technology and administrative roles at the Environmental Protection Agency. That experience across agencies gives him a broad view of how enterprise services must support distinct missions. At Commerce, Epley is responsible for aligning IT, cybersecurity, data use and modernization with departmental priorities. His leadership helps ensure that technology investments serve both the employees who run agency programs and the public and businesses that rely on them.
