FAR amendment speeds up agency acquisitions
The General Services Administration is helping agencies buy information technology solutions faster by eliminating a step in the acquisition process.
Agencies previously had to justify the best procurement approach when using GSA’s IT Schedule 70, Governmentwide Acquisition Contracts, or assisted acquisition solutions, per the Federal Acquisition Regulation.
On June 5, GSA, the Department of Defense, and NASA issued a final FAR amendment that let agencies skip that step.
Now agencies can quickly find GSA IT Category contracts and acquisition solutions, particularly during their end-of-year spending push.
GSA supports 98 percent of agencies in IT acquisitions exceeding $24 billion annually for a savings of $2 billion. Currently, 10 Best in Class contract vehicles covering hardware, software, telecommunications, and professional services exist.
The agency offers an IT Solutions Navigator to others to help others identify the best contracts for their missions.
