DJ Patil, the U.S. chief data scientist, hosted a Twitter chat Wednesday to elaborate on how the White House will collaborate with local law enforcement through the Police Data Initiative.

Announced Monday by President Barack Obama, the initiative will examine how open data and innovative technologies can help improve the relationship between police and the communities they protect.
