U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services CIO Mark Schwartz has submitted his resignation, the agency confirmed to FedScoop on Friday. His last day in office remains to be negotiated.

“Internal discussions are occurring about who will be named to the acting chief information officer role until a permanent replacement is named,” an agency spokesperson told FedScoop. “That decision has yet to be made.”

Schwartz joined USCIS at CIO in June 2010. Since then he has overseen all the IT services that enable USCIS to manage immigration. A prolific speaker, Schwartz also wrote a book called “The Art Of Business Value,” which explores “what business value means, why it matters, and how it should affect your software development and delivery practices.”

Before joining USCIS Schwartz was CIO of Intrax Cultural Exchange. It’s unclear what his next move will be.
